Fore! Golf chain tees up Grand Central-area locale

The Grand Central neighborhood is teeing up. New York Golf Center, which already has two Manhattan locations, recently signed a 12-year deal for 6,500 square feet at 100 Park Ave., on East 40th Street between Park and Madison avenues. Asking rent for the space, which includes a storage basement, was $85 per square foot.

Retail activity in the area around Grand Central Terminal has picked up since the arrival of trendy electronics giant Apple last year, according to Jeffrey Roseman, the Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail broker who, along with colleague Benjamin Birnbaum, represented landlord SL Green Realty Corp. Mr. Roseman cited such retailers as Vince Camuto and Steven Madden Ltd., which have leased recently in the area.

New York Golf Center chose the new spot to fill a market void on the east side, said Peter Liptrot, the Bernstein Real Estate broker who represented the tenant. It has operated a location on West 35th Street for two decades and has a space in Chelsea Piers directly on the driving range where consumers can test out clubs.

The new shop, while too small to have its own range, will still offer custom fitting for shoppers too weary to venture west. It should open by early 2013, Mr. Liptrot added.
