UPDATE: Ed Reed is back in Reliant Stadium this morning to talk to the Texans.
Ed Reed hasn't left Houston yet ... and that's a good sign.
Sources tell CSNHouston that Reed really wants to be in Houston and is serious about signing with the Texans.
"I always told (Andre Johnson), I always have a great time when I come to Houston," Reed said in an exclusive interview with CSNHouston's Kelli Johnson on Thursday night. "Houston is like a home away from home. But we'll see how things going, it's really been going well though."
The future Hall of Famer was picked up by Texans' GM Rick Smith in owner Bob McNair's private jet in Atlanta on Thursday morning and talked with the team's front office and coaching staff at Reliant Stadium.
Then, Reed went out to dinner in Houston. And now, he's spending the night. The dinner included Reed's former University of Miami teammate and close friend Andre Johnson, as well as former Hurricane and current Texans' center Chris Myers.
"Me and him always keep in contact," Reed said about Johnson. "He texted me right after the Super Bowl, it's like 'congratulations and hey man, Houston ain't bad. Houston ain't bad at all.' Because I know the work he's put in, the work that this team has put in. Definitely battle-tested. It'll be exciting to see what happens in these next couple hours and next couple days."
"I'm just excited," said Johnson, who added that he and Reed spend a lot of time together in Houston. "I'm just hoping it all comes together and he becomes my teammate."?
Johnson also added that Reed is "serious" about coming to the Texans.
The two sides will have more discussions on Friday and could possibly reach an agreement. Reed was drafted by the Ravens in 2002 and has never played anywhere else. The Ravens have lost a number of starters from their Super Bowl winning team. Reed was asked about the chances of returning to Baltimore.
"I think as an organization, they want things on their terms," Reed said. "And seeing how things are transpiring over there right now, it's like 'wow.' I kind of can't believe how things are happening from a business standpoint when guys ... a blood sweat and tears and give you everything. And try to do the best for the team. And players definitely did that. You know, Baltimore is an organization that's a great organization over the years as we all know and do the right things for the organization and you have to respect that. Every organization does it."
Reed was also asked if he could be the piece to push the Texans over the top and win a Super Bowl.
"Hey, I plan to do my part," Reed said. "Just talking to the coaches and knowing what they need and seeing what happened on film, like New England, things we've discussed and knowing what we've done in Baltimore and how battle-tested we were, the adversity we went through and knowing the team here in Houston and the things they went through, it reminds me of us, the battles that we had to go through. If I'm that piece, hey, here I am."
Reed mentioned J.J. Watt, Antonio Smith, Brian Cushing and Danieal Manning when asked what excited him about the Texans' defense. He also praised the team's offense.
The Texans are looking for a replacement after safety Glover Quin signed a five-year deal to join the Detroit Lions on Wednesday.
Reed, 34, is coming off his first Super Bowl victory and is a nine-time Pro Bowler and an eight-time All-Pro. The future Hall of Famer had spent his entire 11-year career with the Ravens after they took him with the 24th pick in the 2002 draft. Reed will turn 35 in September.
