UFC President Dana White has reportedly revealed what?s next for the UFC?s heavyweight division at a Q&A in Ireland. The UFC president has announced that Cain Velasquez will be defending his heavyweight crown against Antonio Silva, while former champion Junior Dos Santos will meet with Alistair Overeem at UFC 160.
Velasquez (11-1) and Silva (18-4) met at UFC 146 last May. The AKA product dominated Silva en route to a first round cut stoppage and went on to outpoint Junior Dos Santos for the title in December. ?Bigfoot? has gone undefeated since being beaten by Cain, taking knockout victories over Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem.
Down the bill, a heavyweight grudge match between Junior Dos Santos (15-2) and Alistair Overeem (36-12) is set to take place. The two heavyweight strikers were slated to meet at the aforementioned event, but a failed drug test on the part of the former Stikeforce titleholder kept him out of the bout. The two giants have been locked in a war of words since. Unfortunately, the bout comes with lower stakes behind both men suffering losses to the main event fighters.
Dana White has yet to confirm the event stateside, but several in attendance at the Q&A have reported the news.
